Head of school

Michael J. Schafer

Head of School

Mike is energized by Newman and his return to Boston, where he worked for 15 years in school leadership roles at Belmont Hill School and Middlesex School. He excelled for 15 years as head of school at Kimball Union, strengthening curriculum, the student experience and increasing the school’s admissions and the endowment tenfold.

Curriculum & special classes

The Newman School offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, providing intellectual challenge and a dynamic learning environment. The curriculum is developed in the liberal arts tradition embraced by John Henry Newman, focusing on deep inquiry, knowledge, skills, and reflection.

Financial aid

Approximately 40% of students receive financial aid, which is awarded based on a family's demonstrated financial need. Calculations are made with the Clarity Application.

Before & after school care

No extended-care hours or rates on file yet. This is one of the biggest surprise costs for working parents — if you know what before- and after-care runs here, add it below.
