A quick walkthrough for parents — from your first search to contributing what you've learned. Twelve steps, about five minutes.
From the home page, type a school name, city, or ZIP. Use the filters to narrow by state, grade range, and price so you only see schools you can realistically consider.
Enter your street address and a distance (say, 10 miles) on the right side of the search page to see every independent school within driving distance, sorted closest first.
Click any school to open its full profile. Here you'll find the head of school, curriculum highlights, tuition broken out by division (preschool through high school), admissions timeline and acceptance rate, financial aid, before/after-school care, and a "Last verified" date showing how fresh the data is.
On any search result, tap Compare to add a school to your comparison tray. Add two or more, then open the tray to see tuition, fees, financial aid, and care costs lined up together — with an estimated all-in annual total for each.
Tap the ★ on a profile to watch a school. Your saved schools live at My schools, where you'll see new activity (fresh reports or questions) since you started watching, an affordability calculator, and an application deadline tracker.
In My schools, enter your household income, assets, and number of children. Truition estimates need-based aid at each saved school and shows your likely net cost — the number that actually matters for your budget.
Each profile rolls up parent-reported extras — uniforms, bus, trips, devices, annual fund expectations — into a realistic all-in number on top of sticker tuition. This is the ledger members unlock.
The community section on each profile has two tabs: Hidden costs and Parent experiences (academics, diversity, community). Upvote what's useful, mark a cost as "still accurate" or "outdated," and look for the ✓ Verified parent badge on reports from parents confirmed to have a child at the school.
Below the community feed, the Q&A area lets you ask a short question and see answers from parents who go there — lower friction than writing a full review.
Signed in? Use the form in the community section to add a hidden cost you discovered or share your family's experience. Posts go live immediately as "unverified" and are reviewed by a moderator — so you help the next family right away.
Whenever someone posts a new cost or experience about a school you're watching, a badge appears in My schools. (Email alerts are coming soon.)
Free accounts see everything a school publishes about itself. A membership unlocks the parent-reported cost ledger, the affordability calculator, and saved comparisons. See membership.
