The International School of Portland offers a rigorous academic program taught primarily through a second language (Japanese, Chinese, or Spanish) using an inquiry-based learning approach. It is an authorized IB World School, the first in the Pacific Northwest, focusing on student-led inquiry.

Tuition support, also known as financial aid, is available based on demonstrated need and is provided as grants and tuition discounts. The school uses FACTS to evaluate applications, and the average award in 2023-24 covered roughly one third of tuition for families with an average household income over $100,000.

Applications are accepted starting in September of the year prior to the student's start date. Admission offers are made on a first-come, first-served basis, with enrollment contracts mailed in February and due back by the end of March with a non-refundable deposit. Applications received after April are considered if space is available.

What they ask for: PreK: must be 3 years old and potty-trained. LowK: must be 4 years old by September 1. Kindergarten: must be 5 years old by September 1 and submit a teacher recommendation. Grades 1-5: transcript, teacher recommendation, and language assessment (Grades 2-5 must demonstrate grade-appropriate language fluency).
