Ivan M. Hageman, born on Chicago's Southside and raised in East Harlem, is the Head and Co-Founder of The East Harlem School at Exodus House. He attended Harvard University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, and later a Master's degree from Harvard's Graduate School of Education.

EHS cultivates global citizens through meditation, sport, and a deep pursuit of the liberal arts, enabling students to adapt and create lives of deep meaning. The school aims to develop academic excellence, moral integrity, courtesy, and an unshakable commitment to their future and community.

One hundred percent of EHS families receive scholarship support, and tuition accounts for less than five percent of the School's total revenue. All EHS families pay tuition, but it is determined according to ability and on a case-by-case basis, with the average tuition being $555/year.

The East Harlem School has a rolling admissions process, accepting applications throughout the year, with acceptances administered on a rolling basis. The process involves filling out an application, an Admission Day visit for the child, and a student and family interview with the Head of School.

What they ask for: Application, proof of income (most recent W2 or other annual earnings summary), report cards/school records from the past two years, immunization record and most up-to-date physical form, student interview, family interview. Teacher recommendation form is optional.
